Vijay Kicks Off Statewide TVK Campaign from Trichy, Targets DMK Over ‘505 Unfulfilled Promises’

Trichy, Tamil Nadu – Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay launched his much-anticipated statewide tour for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Saturday, marking a major political milestone by choosing Trichy as the starting point.

The choice of Trichy carried symbolic weight, as it was also the launchpad for iconic leaders such as C.N. Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran.

Sharp Attack on DMK

Addressing a massive crowd, Vijay launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government, accusing it of betraying voters by failing to deliver on 505 electoral promises. He highlighted lapses such as:

  • Budget allocations for temples remaining unfulfilled,

  • Student loan waiver schemes not materializing,

  • The promised 40% reservation for women in government jobs still pending, and

  • Over 200,000 job vacancies left unfilled.

He also called for urgent investigations into corruption cases, citing the alleged kidney theft incident at a government hospital as an example of systemic neglect.

Vijay’s Speech Highlights

In his address, Vijay struck an emotional and combative tone, balancing criticism with assurances of change. Key takeaways included:

  • “People’s welfare above politics” – He vowed to prioritize public needs over partisan interests.

  • Zero tolerance for corruption – Urging strict investigations into malpractice in hospitals and state institutions.

  • Opportunities for youth – Promised skill development and new job avenues to tackle unemployment.

  • Safety for women – Stressed the importance of implementing reservation and stronger law enforcement to ensure security.

  • End to political violence – Called on his supporters to engage in constructive politics and avoid conflict.

Pledges for Change

Vijay emphasized that TVK’s political agenda would focus on education, employment, women’s safety, and law and order. He assured citizens that his party would work to reduce political violence and bring practical changes to improve the everyday lives of the people.

In a striking move, he also took aim at both the DMK and the BJP, accusing them of “cheating the public” and positioning TVK as a fresh alternative force in Tamil Nadu politics.

Campaign Goals

The objectives of the TVK tour, according to Vijay, include:

  • Meeting workers and ordinary citizens to understand their everyday struggles,

  • Spreading awareness about TVK’s policies and agenda,

  • Strengthening the party’s grassroots network across the state.

The Road Ahead

The statewide tour will continue until December 20, 2025, with Vijay planning to meet people every weekend. Political analysts note that this tour marks the most significant step yet in Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics, raising voter anticipation and setting the stage for a fiercely contested 2026 election.
