Israel Approves Trump’s 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan: A Step Toward Ending a Two-Year Conflict
Jerusalem / Washington, October 2025:
In a landmark move toward restoring stability in the Middle East, Israel has officially approved former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and securing the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas. The Israeli cabinet ratified the agreement in early October, marking a significant diplomatic breakthrough after nearly two years of intense conflict and humanitarian crisis.
Following the government’s approval, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the commencement of a phased ceasefire and began pulling back troops from parts of Gaza as part of the plan’s initial implementation phase. The move represents the first concrete step toward de-escalation since hostilities erupted in 2023.
Hamas Agrees to Partial Terms
In a parallel development, Hamas has reportedly accepted portions of the proposal, agreeing to negotiate the release of hostages and cease hostilities under international supervision. The plan envisions a phased exchange, in which Palestinian detainees held by Israel will be released in tandem with the return of Israeli hostages.
Although Hamas has not yet formally endorsed all aspects of the plan, its willingness to engage in structured talks has been welcomed by mediators as a promising sign of progress.
Leaders Endorse the Plan
Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump have publicly endorsed the peace framework. Netanyahu described the agreement as a “crucial turning point toward restoring security and peace for Israel,” while Trump called it “a pragmatic path to end the suffering and rebuild hope for both peoples.”
The deal’s primary goal is to end a two-year-long conflict that has claimed thousands of lives, displaced civilians, and destabilized the region.
The Structure of the 20-Point Plan
While full details remain confidential, diplomatic sources indicate that Trump’s plan emphasizes three main stages:
-
Immediate Ceasefire and Humanitarian Relief: A cessation of hostilities accompanied by expanded humanitarian corridors into Gaza.
-
Hostage and Prisoner Exchange: Parallel release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.
-
Reconstruction and Security Guarantees: Internationally supervised rebuilding of Gaza and long-term arrangements for demilitarization and governance.
Regional and Global Reactions
The plan has drawn cautious optimism across the region. Egypt and Qatar, who have served as key mediators, are expected to play a major role in ensuring compliance. The United States and several European Union members have welcomed the development, calling it a “vital first step toward a sustainable peace.”
However, analysts warn that sustaining the ceasefire will require “unprecedented coordination” among all parties, especially regarding border security, political reconciliation, and Gaza’s future governance.
A New Chapter for the Middle East?
If successfully implemented, the agreement could serve as a blueprint for wider Arab-Israeli normalization efforts, potentially rekindling regional diplomacy disrupted by the prolonged conflict. Observers see the move as a test of whether Trump’s transactional diplomacy—once again influencing global affairs—can produce a lasting peace in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
As the first Israeli troops withdraw and negotiations for hostage release proceed, the coming weeks will determine whether this ambitious plan can truly turn a fragile ceasefire into a durable peace.
